Top 20 Finalists Announced at Believe Begin Become Final Awards Ceremony in Dar es Salaam
Believe Begin Become''s business plan competition ended on a high note with the announcement of the 2008/9 winners of the business plan competition. The overall winner, a Honey Exporter, Jayen Chandarana, was overjoyed at being selected the overall winner of the 2008/9 business plan competition. Jayen, a Dar es Salaam resident walks away with $20,000 in seed capital awards and another $5,000 in business development services awards.
The first runner-up, Elizabeth Mwakatobe won $15,000 for her Sweater Knitting business plan. The second runner -up, Ben Sulus with his Anti-Termite Treated Poles business plan also won $15,000. The Minister in the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Marketing, Hon. Mary Nagu, attended the finals event as the key note speaker for the evening.
More than 200 people representing Tanzania''s leading professionals and entrepreneurs attended the event. Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister commended TechnoServe and the University of Dar es Salaam Entrepreneurship Centre (UDEC) for helping to promote the development of small and medium enterprises in the country.
The top-20 finalists received a total of $130,000 in seed capital awards. Through the Aftercare programme, the entrepreneurs will receive business development support services through a network of pre-approved business development service providers, financial brokers, local and international consultants.
